FAQ

WILL YOU FIX MY BIKE?
No, Bike Farm is not a bike shop. We will not fix your bike.

IF YOU’RE NOT A BIKE SHOP, WHAT ARE YOU?
Bike Farm is a do-it-yourself bicycle education collective. We teach you to fix your own bike.

DO YOU OFFER CLASSES?
The shop sometimes offers workshops, but we don't have regular classes. If something is wrong with your bike, bring it in. We will help you learn to fix it.

THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BIKE; CAN I STILL COME IN?
Please do! If your bike is in great shape, but you want to learn a new skill, you are welcome to practice on shop bikes. Bike Farm has a large supply of donated bicycles that we are constantly building up and selling. Our core mechanics will guide your learning and make sure that the bikes are safe before they head out on the road.

I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BIKES; CAN I STILL VOLUNTEER?
Yes! We will teach you to fix bikes. We’re also pretty sure that you have other skills that you can teach us.

HOW DOES BIKE FARM COME TO AGREEMENT?
Bike Farm operates through a consensus-based decision making process. This is mostly notable during our general meetings. These happen on the fourth Tuesday of every month, and more often as needed. During meetings, anyone present has to power to vote on and make proposals.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY “CONSENSUS”?
Bike Farm seeks the consent of all participants when the shop makes decisions. If someone blocks a proposal, it does not pass. The proposal is either dropped or people who care about the topic get together to discuss it.

SO WHO'S IN CHARGE?
Bike Farm is non-hierarchical, which means that no one is your boss, and the collective is in charge. All important decisions are made by consensus at monthly meetings and should reflect our mission. Ultimately, we suppose that means that our mission is in charge.

WHAT'S YOUR MISSION?
Bike Farm aims to provide a space where people can learn about the bicycle and build community around promoting sustainable transportation. We strive to demystify the bike in order to impact the city in a healthy and positive way. One volunteer once simplified this to say that we put tools in people’s hands.
